4/24/2020

By Tara Mulay

Classical Buddhist texts point to four heavenly messengers who motivated the Buddha to seek awakening.  During this dharma talk and discussion, we will explore these four messengers and how our practice can be strengthened, leading to greater equanimity and clarity, in the midst of the current pandemic.

Dharma Talk; Wednesday, May 27, 7pm.
Sit together remotely with other sangha members in a relaxed online atmosphere and enjoy a dharma talk by an IPV or guest teacher.

Wise Effort on the Cushion and in the World

By Manny Mansbach, IPV Teacher

As we study the wise Buddhist teaching of the four wise exertions—avoiding and abandoning the unskillful, and generating and sustaining the skillful—for relevancy in this time we must ask what wise effort looks like in a time of pandemic, economic upheaval, and political dysfunction?

The deep uncertainty and shared vulnerability that is always our true underlying condition and has been highlighted by the current crisis contains individual and social dangers, but also opens up possibilities for transformational change. With the torn fabric of our world and our usual assumptions, comes an opening for radical reconsideration of our habitual practices and priorities, on both personal and societal levels.

Using the shelter of the Buddha’s guidance, join me in exploring wise effort, a key part of the Noble Eightfold Path, in these uncharted times.

By Kim Weeber, IPV Teacher

Many of us have been caught up in reading one news story after another about the challenges we are facing.  We are neurologically wired to pay attention to danger, and it has helped us survive.  But what we choose to do with our attention can lead us toward more ease or more stress.  Lets explore how we can choose what we pay attention to, and choose practices that provide us with a safe haven in times of difficulty.
